About Dub

I live in Little Rock, Arkansas with my wife, Amanda Ferrell (pictured) and son Daniel (not pictured). I've been involved in 2D and 3D graphics design since around 1995, when I first downloaded a little freeware raytracing program called POV-Ray.

I grew up in Rock Island, Illinois and moved to Alexandria, Virginia in 1986. I attended undergrad courses at Virginia Tech, with an eye toward a career in broadcast communications. I received my diploma (BA in Liberal Arts) in 1995.

My love of 3D took me from POV-Ray to other desktop applications such as Caligari trueSpace and Hash Animation Master. and ultimately, 3D Studio MAX. To complement my 3D work, I rely heavily on Adobe Photoshop, Adobe After Effects and Adobe Premiere.

Notable Career Points

Caligari trueSpace3 For Dummies: There I am, just sitting there in 1996 reading my e-mail, when I get a note from the Acquisitions Editor of IDG Books asking if I want to write Caligari trueSpace3 For Dummies. I mean, this just dropped in my lap. A few months (and several cartons of Camels) later, and the first draft of the manuscript was done. The book didn't burn up the sales charts, but it was still a great feeling to walk into Borders and see this thing sitting on the shelf with my name on it.

Bikini Karate Babes is an epic tale of love, betrayal, and the triumph of the spirit; a complex interweaving of dramatic themes cleverly disguised as a video game where women hit each other and shoot magic powers from their boobs. I did the 3D backgrounds for the "pose" screens, and a few of the special effects. This is a game that is positively screaming for a sequel! (Which, as it happens, I'm also working on. Ahem.)

Trenches is a Web-isode series from Shane Felux's X-ile Pictures produced by ABC/Disney's (now defunct) Stage 9 Digital, and distributed via Sony's Crackle. I contributed a number of FX shots for the production and had a really great time in the process. All without leaving the comforts of my home theater couch!
