Star Wars: Revelations Portfolio

Here are all the shots that I worked on for Revelations, presented in the order in which they appeared in the film. Note that some of these images might appear a bit different from the way they look in the film, due to post-processing filters used by Shane during editing.

Vader's Meditation Chamber

For this shot, I used an existing model of the chamber found over at the SciFi3D site. A bit of work was necessary for the lighting and texturing, but I'm grateful to model author Ian Foster for his efforts.

Cade Fires Ascension Gun

This is one of those rare instances where I made a model all by myself. The cord is a MAX helical shape with about a dozen coils. To simulate the un-coiling, I animated the Height value of the helix and applied a noise modifier to add some chaos.

Cougar Breaks Corellian Atmosphere

This is where the fun of space travel begins for our heroes, and also for yours truly. It's also one of the few times I cheated using a "look at" camera dummy parented to a ship -- though in this case, the dummy follows a bit behind, so as not to give away my cheapness.

Weaving Through Ship Lanes

A definite homage to (read: rip-off of) similar shots of the Millennium Falcon in both Empire and Jedi. Also probably the most justice I did to Adam Benton's beautiful Cougar model. The brilliant Corellian Corvette model is another "yoink" from SciFi3D, with a bit of texture work.

Incoming!

A definite homage to (read: rip-off of) the "Fighters, coming in!" shot from Jedi, composed to accommodate six TIEs instead of dozens. And as in that movie, I made sure to include plenty of flak that seems to burst from nowhere.

Strafe

This shot turned out an awful lot like the reverse shot of the Falcon and wing plowing through the TIEs, though it wasn't intended that way at first; my initial draft showed just the TIEs and no Cougar.

TIES Coming About

After the initial salvo, it's time to turn around and give pursuit. The TIE Fighter mesh is by a very talented modeler named James Bassett. We were very grateful to have it to beat up, and can't thank him enough. Take a stroll over to his site.
